new things

music: finally got the new the killers album in the mail today (thank you, amazon)!! i have yet to listen to it, but i did like the single, "human". my current favorite song though comes from the band, 3OH!3, and it's called "don't trust me".

books: received tolstoy's anna karenina and amelia atwater-rhodes' persistence of memory for christmas at the secret santa party last night (: thanks, danh!! some of you may recall rhodes as the author of hawksong and those vampire books we read in high school. this is her latest book, and i'm quite excited to read it. also, i went to barnes and noble today and couldn't resist picking up the last cavalier by alexandre dumas. it's like 800 pages long, but i'm going to love reading it.

we four need to hang out sometime together when miss chai gets back from espana. also, who's turn is it to have mochi the bear?

booooooooooooks

I love books! Haha okay, so I'm just waiting to get my hands on Breaking Dawn now, but other than that, I highly highly recommend the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Her works are excellent pieces of historical fiction with romance infused. Actually as the series goes on, the books have a lot more romance in them, but the first book, Outlander, is my favorite of the six books. Interestingly it was about the uprising led by Bonnie Prince Charles (which I actually studied in my british history class last year), and it's just a great mix of history, adventure, and romance.

Also, Jhumpa Lahiri's books are excellent. Interpreter of Maladies is a very enjoyable collection of short stories. I absolutely loved The Namesake, and I can't wait to read An Unaccustomed Earth.

"i'm having a thought here..."

i was thinking. in addition to music, we shared books with each other too.
so why not extend mochi's infinite playlist to include not only music, and music related things (e.g. recommendations), why not also talk about the books we're reading, etc right now?

"what say you?"
(sorry for all the pirates quotes, but i wouldn't be me without them, would i? ;)
much love, hopefully i see you all SOON, at the christmas party<3

12 December 2008

anberlin - never take friendship personal
cartel - chroma
coheed and cambria - in keeping secrets of silent earth: 3
daft punk - discovery
the fray - how to save a life
girl talk - night ripper

and of course, the twilight soundtrack (lol).
agree? disagree? what are yours?

ratatat

ratatat must be a wintertime thing for me. you may recall last winter break headbanging in the car to "seventeen years". well, i've been listening to their latest album, LP3, and the song, "shempi" is what's keeping me awake in the library all day. that's right. i hear this song, and i start bounce-dancing in my chair (i'm sure i get a lot of weird stares for this), it's that good.

a few christmas songs i like:
jimmy eat world - "last christmas"
hellogoodbye - "winter wonderland" (i love forrestt, he is so cute<3)
mariah carey - "all i want for christmas is you"

and the traditionals:
"rockin' around the christmas tree", "jingle bell rock", "deck the halls"
what are your favorites?

more music

oh good song i forgot to mention before:

rock kills kid - i turn my camera on

speaking of the fray...

if you haven't heard the single for their upcoming cd (to be released feb 2009), i would recommend doing so, immediately. yummyyyy.

i listened to it here, on amazon. scroll down a little bit and press "play" on the video. listen to the intro talking stuff and then the song will play and i think it's pretty good anyway. the single is called, "you found me." (: yeah. i found you ;)

all I have to say

Britney is back.

more twilight

downloaded the twilight score today. i haven't listened to it all yet, since it just finished and i'm now playing it on itunes. but it sounds lovely so far!! (:

playlist

i spent approximately half an hour making a new playlist on itunes today called "high school."

special features include: the academy is.. - almost here (anyone remember me giving mr. legere my copy of the cd to listen to and then him not returning it until like 3 weeks later when connie chai asked him for it back? ily, connie chai<3), style="font-weight: bold;">anberlin - never take friendship personal, cartel - chroma, the fray - how to save a life (remember how i used to play "over my head (cable car)" everyday in my car for over a month? you guys are so awesome for putting up with that (: ), hellogoodbye - hellogoodbye (how could i NOT mention hgb? they're from our hometown!!!), jimmy eat world - futures, matchbook romance - stories and alibis, motion city soundtrack - commit this to memory, straylight run - straylight run (aww, "existentialism on prom night" <3), etc.

and of course "our" songs: "rock 'n' roll" by the sounds, "deceptacon" by le tigre, blah blah blah you know the rest of them. anyway, i hope this blast from the past finds you well and makes you melt and say "awww," and all that good stuff.

eleven days 'til home and i get to see all of you lovelies again<3 (:

more soundtracks

downloaded the twilight soundtrack, so if you want any of the tracks, just ask. i loooove "bella's lullaby". which one of you piano cm scholars is going to learn to play it for me first? i'm also downloading the painted veil soundtrack, per your recommendation, jess. unfortunately it's going very slowly ):

ETA: k. i am really loving the rest of the soundtrack as well. it almost makes up for how bad the movie was. almost.

taste change, pt deux

(pretentious? yes.)

taste change here too - i'm more for mellow as well. this entails great current affection for Ingrid Michaelson, specifically her "Winter Song" collaboration w/ Sara Bareilles (from the album The Hotel Cafe). Melee. John Paul White - "Can't Get It Out of My Head". Rock Kills Kid - "I Turn My Camera On". Imogen Heap - "Speeding Cars". Brandon Heath - "London"; "Give Me Your Eyes". Missy Higgins. Brooke Fraser.

more:
Paramore - "Decode" shamefully linked to that movie that calls itself Twilight.
The Sounds - "Tony the Beat"
The Hush Sound
Castledoor
Duffy - "Mercy" (abnormal version w/ the rapping guy)
The Faces - "Stay with Me"
Tenth Avenue North - Love Is Here
The Mamas & the Papas
Elton John - "Bennie and the Jets"

and lastly, and shamefully
David Archuleta - "Crush"
(yes, great shame.)

Soundtracks

Movie soundtracks are awesome, especially The Dark Knight. And Gladiator. But right now I'm about to get my hands on the new Augustana album, so that'll be exciting! Other than that, Explosions in the Sky is an awesome instrumental band.

taste change

so my main playlist right now centers around: MGMT - "kids", the virgins - "hey, hey girl", lady gaga - "summerboy", daedelus - "my beau" and "make it so", devotchka - "how it ends", MSTRKRFT - "chromeo - tenderoni", phantom planet - "do the panic," etc.

there are others, of course, but these are the ones i can remember off the top of my head (:
albums i'm enjoying: jimmy eat world - chase this light (especially the song, "dizzy"), all anberlin albums, and i'm trying to listen to all of the new bloc party album, intimacy, but so far i've only really listened to a couple of tracks ("mercury", "ion square"). but yeah. check that stuff out, ladies. gone are the days when my main music influence was basically jimmy, and my daily playlist contained mostly thursday, thrice, coheed, a7x, etc. blah blah time passes, things change, tastes differ, etc. sorry, pooks :/ right now i'm very much into chill mellow music, and things with a beat you can dance to.

enough procrastinating studying, i have work to do.

first post

welcome to mochi's infinite playlist!! i am one of your four hostesses, acornmoose! it is very nice to meet you, dear reader.

this is a music blog. the four of us are here to talk about music that we like, dislike, and just share it with each other so we stay up to date with each others' tastes and preferences and stuff. and hear new stuff. that's a big plus.

so welcome, poke around, enjoy your stay (:
